The Alternative Education Coordinator is a teacher within the Hilton High School Alternative Education Program who assumes additional leadership responsibilities to support the program’s vision, operations, and success. Guided by the program philosophy of providing a full-day, structured, supportive “school within a school,” the Coordinator serves as the primary teacher leader who fosters collaboration, coherence, communication, and student-centered supports across the program.

The role received a $7,152 stipend for leadership responsibilities performed over the course of the school year.

The job of program coordinator requires a person with good communication, group facilitation, and organizational skills. Program coordinators need to be proactive and flexible in a variety of situations. The position requires the individual to utilize these skills, as well as their teaching experience so that they can effectively assist their department in understanding and implementing the district curriculum, the NYS Standards for the Arts, IB assessments, AP assessments, and District Art assessments. In addition, the person should be able to assist their department in moving the district’s initiative forward. The program coordinator must demonstrate a commitment to ongoing involvement in staff development and other professional development opportunities, as well as support school and district improvement efforts.
