The Hilton Central School District has a vacancy for a 1.0 FTE Head Custodian position.  This is a supervisory custodial/maintenance position responsible for the efficient and economical cleaning and maintenance of school buildings.  General supervision is exercised over other staff such as Cleaners and Custodians. The typical hours for this position are 3:00pm-11:30pm, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Rotating weekends and/or holidays are required.  The position includes a generous benefits package, paid time off, and the opportunity to join the NYS Retirement System. Positive fingerprint clearance through the NYSED is required. 

Typical Work Activities:

Supervises and schedules the work of subordinates

Conducts inspections of maintenance activities to ensure they are performed according to regulations

Maintains an inventory of supplies

Ensure basic security of buildings

Conducts daily routine inspections of areas/equipment such as fan rooms, boilers, walk-in coolers/freezers, and swimming pools (leaks, pumps, etc.)

Job Qualifications

Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.

Positive fingerprinting clearance through the NYSED is required.

Must be able to meet requirements of Head Custodian job description.

Applicants must be currently working in this title, or meet the minimum qualifications listed on the Monroe County Civil Service job specification to be considered as a *provisional hire.

(Head Custodian Civil Service Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:  (A) Two (2) years of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in both building cleaning and maintenance activities; OR,  (B)  One (1) year of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in both building cleaning and maintenance activities, plus one (1) year of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as a skilled workman in either the carpentry, plumbing, painting or electrical trade; OR,  (C)  An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

*The term provisional means that you will be required to take the next Civil Service examination for this title, and place among the top three (3) candidates on the examination list in order to be eligible for permanent appointment.
